I'm Jad, currently working at the University of Michigan in language and literacy research, with a motivation in sociolinguistics and education in Information Science and Computer Science.
What I do
I support academic operations in data processing for research, mainly by designing computational scripts for processing and validating research data with Python. I was also previously a teaching assistant for the graduate program at the U-M School of Information, and I have been learning server administration for Linux and Mac to aid research workflows, mainly with GNOME Desktop.
Research
I'm not exactly a researcher as I do not conduct experiments myself, but most of my experience has been as an interdisciplinary research assistant for lack of a better term. Typically, I write code to expedite or automate data transformations. Most prominently, I've compiled data for the Empirical Methods in Natural Language Processing conference.

Psycholinguistics
Programming
On top of my practical Python experience, I'm quite knowledgeable in low-level programming in C++, C and assembly from my undergraduate experience. My graduating project was mobile application design with Kotlin, and I read quite a lot of Apple's Swift Documentation post-graduation to learn a modern C-style programming language with memory safety. I'm not an app developer or user interface designer with SwiftUI, but I can design efficient general purpose code with Swift.

Language
I am quite involved in language and linguistics. Most of my work experience has involved language in some way, including my student job at the University of Michigan Graduate Library, where I processed books, maps, and academic journals for all of the library's language departments. I've forgotten a lot of the International Phonetic Alphabet, but I am experienced in transliteration between Latin and non-Latin scripts, and familiar with software localization. Currently, I am interested in sociolinguistics, and have attended the New Ways of Analyzing Variation (NWAV) conference.
